Work-In-Progress: Barack Obama Caricature

July 29, 2008

Just a look at something I’m working on currently. Done in Painter X after scanning the lineart from pencil sketch at 600 dpi.

I didn’t time the progress so far, but it’s in the neighborhood of 1-2 hours. I love the brushes in Painter and have used extensively the following: Coarse Spray Airbrush, Digital Airbrush, Oil Pastel, Grainy Water Blender, Smudge Blender (not as often as grainy water), Square Chalk, and the Scratchboard Tool under Pens.

In my opinion, for digital painting such as this, the brush engine in Corel Painter far outdoes Photoshop. I feel much more comfortable blending and changing brushes. That being said, I honestly don’t have a whole lot of experience in Photoshop with extensive digital painting so I am not an expert by any means.

I definitely enjoy the process more in Painter, that is certain.
